Origin is a young, vibrant Cornwall based coffee brand. Started in 2002, Origin began supplying great tasting, ethically and environmentally sound coffees to Restaurants, Hotels and Cafes in Cornwall.
Today Origin supplies some of finest Restaurants in the United Kingdom as well as well known celebrity chefs. Alongside the catering side Origin also has a dedicated range of retail coffees that are sold to independent retailers and delis.
The Team
Tom Sobey
Tom 29, from Helston has over 10 years experience in coffee, in fact coffee runs in his family. Origin was Tom’s brainchild and was born out of a long running love of coffee, a trip to Australia and a desire to give people great tasting coffee that also gave something back to the environment in which it’s grown.
Tom has grown Origin Coffee into a thriving business that has become synonymous with Cornish Coffee culture. This was recognised recently when Sobey scooped The Hub Entrepreneur of the year award in 2006.
The company now employs 13 people and has earned itself an enviable reputation with the acquisition of some prestigious clients such as the “Fifteen” restaurants in London and Cornwall as well as Rick Stein’s restaurant’s in Padstow.
Phil Gevaux
Phil is Origin's talented Barista Trainer and is in charge of all coffee standards within the Company. Not only does Phil regularly visit all of our customers in Devon and Cornwall, he is also responsible for running the Origin Coffee School.
Now boasting a proud association with Cornwall College, Origin’s coffee school have teamed up with the college to offer a City & Guilds qualification in Barista Skills – delivered by our very own Mr Gevaux.
Phil recently passed him exams to be a judge on the UK Barista Championships Board and will be judging in this year’s competition to find the best Barista in the country.
Andy Tucker
An experienced barista and a recent addition to the Origin Team, Andy, 25 from Devon is based in Exeter. Andy’s new role as Business Development Manager is to cultivate the Origin brand throughout the UK.
Coming from a management background within the Bar/Restaurant industry – Andy has worked all over the world but has returned home with a passionate drive to deliver great coffee and service to our customers with Origin Coffee.
Andy also works closely with Phil to deliver training courses to our customers located further a field.
Nathan Lorraine
Nathan is our newly appointed Financial Controller and brings an acute eye for detail to all the financial aspects of Origin. He works closely with Tom to help develop growth plans for the business to take us into the future at a sustainable rate without sacrificing the quality of service to our customers or the principals upon which the business was founded.
Stephen Hickling
Steve is the man who keeps everything we do at Origin running smoothly. A point of contact for customers to place orders, Steve also liaises between the sales and the engineering department to ensure your Origin coffee arrives safely and is served on a pristine machine.
Mark Allen
As service manager Mark organizes the day to day operations of our workshop and mobile engineers. He is also developing working relationships with engineers outside of Cornwall and Devon to improve our service nationally.
Engineering Department
In order to serve the perfect coffee you need your equipment to be in top condition. Origin’s in house engineers are manufacturer trained and are able to call on many years of experience. Following a recent refurbishment of our workshop facilities we are able to offer a full engineering service for all machines we supply as well as most other manufacturers machines.
