Rwanda has always had a special place in our heart at the roastery. Coffees produced in the country are incredibly interesting and unique, offering a massive diversity that results in so many delicious crops.
High altitude and nutrient rich, volcanic soil are ingredients for exceptional coffee and this natural process Buganza is just that. The Buganza washing station works with 799 smallholder farmers, who deliver ripe coffee cherries that are separated into quality lots before and after processing. Once sorted, the coffee is floated in fresh water before being sorted again, with the dense, high quality cherries removed for drying. This process takes place on flat tables with a close-knit wire mesh and shade nets to protect the cherries from the intense midday heat of the sun. This retains the high quality and sugar content of the mucilage surrounding the bean.
With a huge amount of sweetness and distinct tropical flavour, Buganza is an incredible cup. With intense flavours of passion fruit, pineapple and ripe strawberry, offering a rich sweetness to ground its complex acidity.
Espresso: 1:2 coffee to water, extracted in 28-32 secs
Filter: 60-65g coffee per litre of water, brewed for 3-4 mins
Roast days are Tuesdays and Fridays. All orders placed by midnight the day before will be sent out first-class on the roast day.
We create a new and unique profile for each coffee we roast. Although the profiles are different, our approach is always the same, to highlight and accentuate the flavours created at the farm and mill. This means we don’t label our coffees as espresso, filter, dark or light roast. All of our coffees are omni-roast, meant to be delicious however you brew. We believe the heart of speciality is keeping the identity and character of every coffee intact and alive, no matter the brew method.
