Subscription Price Rise
From October 31st, 2022, Origin will be updating their pricing for existing coffee subscribers.
WHY ARE PRICES CHANGING NOW?
The cost of buying coffee from our suppliers has risen sharply as a result of political, environmental, and Covid-related factors. The C-Market price of coffee has risen dramatically, and continues to do so, but we remain committed to our promise to always pay above C-Market prices. The C-Market operates in a similar way to the stock exchange, setting the price benchmark for certain coffee-producing countries, yet providing no guarantee for the quality of the coffee, or guarantee of income for the producer. We believe in paying fairly, supporting relationships, and protecting the future of quality coffee.
We have also had to make the decision to increase prices in line with the continuing rise in the cost of doing business, which has been significant in transportation, packaging, and energy bills.
Alongside soaring costs, the rise of the US dollar (which impacts the price of coffee), and continuing rise of inflation, we recognise the need for the increase of the real Living Wage for our employees—something we are committed to, and in full support of.
Since February, prices across all sectors have risen exponentially.
- Gas has risen 31 percent
- Labour costs have risen 19 percent
- The price of coffee (on average) has risen by 23 percent
- The value of GBP against the US dollar has dropped by 14 percent
- The cost of electricity has risen (and is forecast to continue to rise) dramatically since the start of the year.
WILL PRICES INCREASE AGAIN?
We have a continued responsibility to respond to external factors, ensuring we protect suppliers and can continue to operate as a business. This means that we may have to review and change prices in the new year, in response to the financial climate. We remain honest, open, and transparent, and will always communicate clearly about any future changes—and why we’re making them.
