Hacienda Esmeralda is the most famous name in coffee, and the geisha varietal produced there is the most awarded in the world. The Peterson family’s hacienda is the main washing station, where they process all the coffee from their neighbourhood of four farms. This lot of Esmeralda is a blend of the geishas which are produced on three of these farms: Jaramillo, Quiel, and Cañas Verde.

We visited Hacienda Esmeralda and cupped with Rachel and Daniel Peterson who are the third generation of Petersons producing coffee at Esmeralda. Over a mid harvest cupping we got to taste the picks of the day and  to learn more about this near legendary farm.

Of the hundreds of cuppings we do each year, this was arms, shoulders and mountains above the rest. With its exceptional flavour definition and incredible vibrancy, Esmeralda simply redefines what coffee can be.
