Susana Hurtado Inga is a coffee producer from El Diamante village in San Jose de Lourdes. She owns around 1.5 hectares of land, which is filled with the caturra varietal of coffee, that's been planted at a density of 4000 plants per hectare. The altitude at the farm ranges from 1,800 to 1,900 masl, and the coffee grows under the shade of banana trees.

San Jose de Lourdes has a very distinct climate, compared to other districts in Jaen and San Ignacio. It's much cooler and has higher rainfall, which contributes to a unique cup profile with lots of citrus and a rare buttery characteristic.

Susana picks most of the coffee herself with some support from her extended family, who also own coffee farms in the area. Since Susana doesn't have adequate space or infrastructure to dry her coffee she drys the parchment at a neighbour's farm, Roger Chilcon Flores, who receives the parchment at around 40% and then dries it down to the desired 11% before delivering the coffee to the warehouse.

Espresso: 1:2 coffee to water, extracted in 28-32 secs
Filter: 60-65g coffee per litre of water, brewed for 3-4 mins

ROAST DAY

Roast & despatch days are currently Monday to Friday. All orders placed after midnight on Thursday will be roasted and dispatched on Monday.

ROAST TYPE

We create a new and unique profile for each coffee we roast. Although the profiles are different, our approach is always the same, to highlight and accentuate the flavours created at the farm and mill. This means we don't label our coffees as espresso, filter, dark or light roast. All of our coffees are omni-roast, meant to be delicious however you brew. We believe the heart of speciality is keeping the identity and character of every coffee intact and alive, no matter the brew method.
