Standing 50 kilometres from the base of Mount Kenya, the fifty year old Kavutiri wet mill hosts hundreds of smallholder producers from the Murue co- operative. The mountain peak is only exposed for a couple of hours after sunrise, before the mist collects and obstructs it. It’s this unusual microclimate which plays a significant role in making the local coffee so special.
This is the final Kenyan coffee which we’ll be featuring from the 2017 harvest. It’s always been a dream of ours to directly source coffee from Kenya; it’s a place which grows some of our most cherished coffee and we’ve saved the best until last. Breaking away from the typical Kenyan tasting notes, Kavutiri is floral and complex with an interestingly sweet acidity.
We are already looking forward to revisiting Nairobi later this year, when we get to experience one of the oldest and greatest authorities on coffee in the world.
