We first met Romero three years ago. His farm is occupied by restless chihuahuas and labradors which ran freely, playing in the bushes as we walked through the caturra coffee trees listening to stories about the farm. This visit was formative in our journey into Colombian coffee. Romero was the first farmer we directly sourced from in Colombia, and ever since it has shaped our view on what great coffee is.
The first time we tasted his coffee, there was a clear relationship between the careful and considered production process, and the final flavour in the cup. The crisp acidity is the result of controlled picking. The structure a testament to his measured fermentation techniques. Romero’s coffee is still everything it was when we first decided to bring home; an incredible example of a country and its coffee.
