All about us...
All too often you hear companies telling you they are "an independent and innovative company who differ from the rest", but we really believe we do. Innovation is exactly what we do best; we source, we roast, we sell, we train, we help, we support, we learn and we share what we know. Simple. We dedicate time to teaching people about the wonders of coffee: how to craft a great espresso, the science of milk, the beauty of the latte, where we buy from and the way we roast as well as learning new things along the way ourselves.
Based in the depths of Cornwall we’re crazily enthusiastic about sourcing, importing, roasting and selling great coffee which we spend a long time finding. All our coffee is environmentally sourced and our strict social standards mean we work closely with our farmers to guarantee they are getting a great price for their crop and that their workers and the environment are being looked after too.
We were established in 2004 when we outsourced our roasting to a larger company and distributed our coffee to restaurants, hotels, delis and cafes in Cornwall, slowly gaining more and more business out of the county.
After a successful entrance into the coffee trade we set about planning to achieve our main target - roasting our own coffee. In 2008 we bought a little Diedrick roaster and began dabbling in the art of roasting. We started in a tiny unit with no heating in basic surroundings, roasting tiny amounts for a few of our customers and before we knew it demand for our own roasted coffee was growing. In 2010 we invested in the Loring SmartRoast (our pride and joy) it's the world's first environmentally friendly coffee roaster, using 80% less energy than any other on the market and producing next to no emissions.
We're passionate about fresh coffee and so we buy micro-lots from around the globe and roast it back here in Cornwall. Buying in smaller batches makes sure that the coffee we have is always changing as the seasons progress and our coffee isn’t sitting around in hessian sacks for months on end picking up flavours it was never intended to have. We're proud to say we roast our beans to-order so what you get with us is nothing but the freshest beans.
As it is today Origin has become a well-known coffee roaster in the UK who supplies some of the finest restaurants and hotels in the UK including some belonging to celebrity chefs. Alongside this we also have a dedicated range of retail coffees that are sold to independent retailers, delis and, of course, our webshop.
In short, we love crafting distinctive espresso with beans we know taste great, are traded fairly and we’re proud to put our name on. We hope you like it.
