Get Away with Great Coffee: South West
Introduction
Celebrating the adventures on our doorsteps. From afternoon escapes, weekend wanders, and day breaks, this summer we’re seeking out recommendations, quiet spots, and destinations never too far away from an exceptional coffee. We spoke to a few of our wholesale customers to find out the local spots they love, and why. Summer inspiration and coffee, sorted.
The South West
When summer rolls around in the South West, sitting outside to catch up with friends, celebrating the best of locally sourced produce, beautifully crafted food, and independent businesses always gets our vote—and thankfully there are plenty of brilliant spots to do just that. We caught up with Electric Bakery in Cornwall, and Sonny Stores in Bristol, to find out where they head on a day off.

Electric Bakery
Bude, Cornwall | @electricbakery | Weds-Sun, 9am-2pm
If expertly crafted pastries, incredible sourdough breads, and brilliant coffee is your thing, then Electric Bakery is a must-visit. Always lively and welcoming, Electric Bakery offers a locally sourced menu wherever possible, with bread and pastry dough made in-house. Those in the know, know to get their pre-orders placed for the Saturday lunch specials, as this brilliant spot always sells out fast. It’s outside seating only here, with no reservations, adding to a real community feel. Be sure to check out their Instagram for news, events, and the latest on their menu offerings, and check out their website for always-in-demand courses in making sourdough.

We love St Kew Farm Shop—always great vibes, with an epic plant shop, and very well curated products. Plus, it’s an amazing spot for lunch!
What coffee are you drinking?
We’re rotating between Origin’s Santa Elena natural from El Salvador, and a natural anaerobic, Volcan Azul Gesha, from Costa Rica.

Sonny Stores
Southville, Bristol | @sonnystores | Lunch, Thurs-Sun; Dinner, Weds-Sat
Sunny, spacious, warm, and welcoming—Sonny Stores in Southville, Bristol, makes its way into top restaurant picks and good food guides on a regular basis, and with plenty of good reasons. The family-run, neighbourhood spot presents an ever-impressive daily changing, seasonal menu that takes inspiration from Italy. They’re renowned for brilliant lunches and showstopping dinners, and while Sonny Stores is the perfect place for dropping by for a quick bite and coffee, we thoroughly recommend booking in for dinner, taking your time over good glass of wine and a breathtaking dish or three. Keep an eye out for pop-ups and events, too—these are, perhaps unsurprisingly, always fast to sell out.

During lockdown, when we craved a break from the walks on our doorstep, we discovered Old Sodbury, a tiny village just outside of Bristol. There are scenic walks through fields and rugged hills with gorgeous views, a sweet fairytale pear orchard, ancient woodland, and the ruins of a Roman Fort, which the kids love to run around in. This is somewhere we return to from time-to-time and are always hit with a pang of nostalgia for that strange old moment in time. Now our family has grown yet again, we love to make new memories there and are never disappointed by the gorgeous seasonal changes.
What coffee are you drinking?
We’re suckers for a smooth, chocolatey coffee, so Origin’s Las Chirimoyas gets our vote at the moment.
