Our Approach
Recipe: Coffee: 16g (medium-fine) | Water: 240g at 93°C | Brew time: 2:00–3:00
Equipment: OREA O1 brewer | Acaia Scales | Los Altos Coffee
Step by Step Guide
Step 1
Prepare your set up and gather all equipment.
Step 2
Heat your brewing water 94°C.
Step 3
Place the filter paper in the brewer and rinse thoroughly with hot water to remove any papery taste and preheat the server.
Step 4
After 60 seconds preheating, discard the rinse water from the server.
Step 5
Grind 16g of coffee to a medium-fine consistency (caster sugar texture), add it to the brewer, and gently shake to level.
Step 6
Tare the scales to zero, start your timer, and pour over 60g of hot water in a circular motion, ‘blooming’ the coffee.
Step 7
At 0:40, pour until you reach 120g. At 1:10, pour again until you reach 180g. At 1:40, make your final pour until you reach 240g total.
Step 8
Allow the coffee to draw down completely, aiming for a total brew time of 2:00–3:00 minutes.
Step 9
Serve immediately and enjoy.

Suitable for 1-2 cups, it delivers consistent results for everyday brewing while still giving experienced brewers the freedom to experiment with grind size and recipe ratios.
Expert Tip
"The OREA responds well to small adjustments. If your coffee tastes a little sharp or underdeveloped, try grinding slightly finer. If it feels heavy or muted, coarsen the grind. The brewer's fast flow rate makes it an excellent tool for exploring how different coffees respond to subtle changes."

Brewing Tips
- Both the filter paper and coffee grounds are suitable for home composting.
- If your coffee takes longer than 3:00 minutes to brew, make your grind setting coarser; if it is less than 2:30 minutes, make your grind setting finer.
- The OREA O1 is a versatile brewer that is great for experimentation. Try tweaking your grind, water temperature, bloom time and dosage to refine the flavour.
- Keep your pour gentle and consistent, a slow, even, circular pour helps maintain a level coffee bed for balanced extraction.
- Washed coffees often showcase crisp acidity and refined flavour clarity when brewed through the OREA, while natural and experimentally processed coffees benefit from its ability to emphasise sweetness, texture and vibrancy.
