Our Impacts and Commitments
1. Tackling Climate Change: We will target net-zero emissions well in advance of 2050, with interim goals including a 90% reduction in our direct emissions by 2030. This includes transitioning to biofuels for coffee roasting, procuring 100% renewable electricity across all sites, and committing to low-carbon shipping and logistics. Our annual carbon footprint is published in our Impact Report. Our Supplier Environmental Standard, Freight and Shipping Policy and Energy Policy support this commitment.
2. Building Strong Relationships: We will ensure transparency and traceability in coffee sourcing, support suppliers to adopt sustainable practices, and prioritize fair pay and long-term partnerships. We also focus on enhancing communications to raise awareness about sustainability. Our Coffee Code of Conduct and Coffee Transparency Report support this commitment.
3. Circular Economy: We aim to reduce our use of single-use products, increase recycling rates, and achieve zero waste to landfill across all sites. We will work with partners to redistribute by-products to be used for new purposes. Our Supplier Environmental Standard, Packaging Policy and Waste & Recycling Policy support this commitment.
4. Improving Employee Wellbeing: We will provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment, ensure fair wages and benefits for all employees, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through recruitment and policies. Our Employee Handbook and HR Portal support this commitment.
5. Supporting Direct Trade and Innovation: We aim to prioritize direct trade relationships that ensure high quality coffee, fair compensation for producers, and support female coffee farmers and other underrepresented groups. Our Sourcing Principles supports this commitment.
Monitoring and Improvement
We regularly monitor our environmental performance, and improvements are made based on feedback and new developments. Our Impact Report, published annually on our website, tracks carbon emissions and other key metrics to ensure ongoing progress toward our goals.
Environmental Responsibility
Our CEO, Tom Sobey, oversees this policy. However, everyone at Origin is responsible for meeting our environmental objectives.
