Carlos Pola and his family have been in the coffee business for over a century, and we have proudly shared a direct trade relationship with them since 2014. When coffee rust disease devastated their farms in 2012, Carlos saw this as an opportunity to elevate their practices, and today, his farms are known for high-quality coffee and sustainable methods, including permaculture, reduced pesticide and fertiliser use, and the creation of a self-sufficient agricultural ecosystem.

El Salvador may be Central America’s smallest country, but it boasts a rich coffee heritage dating back to the 1880s. Known for its prized varietals and skilled producers, today’s farmers are shifting focus from volume to cup quality — embracing innovation in processing and plant selection. San Antonio farm sits at 1,250–1,400 masl, with tree-lined corridors that create cool microclimates for the plants, protecting the coffee. Neatly planted rows aid nutrient and water retention, while interspersed nitrogen-fixing plants and larger shade trees support biodiversity and soil health, a thoughtful balance of precision farming and natural harmony.
