The Mierisch family are one of our longest standing Direct Trade partners. Each year we visit their farms across Nicaragua and Honduras to taste crops that we can showcase back in the UK. We talk to the workers, taking trips around their farms. We listen to the challenges they’ve faced, and the improvements they’ve made. Tasting coffee each step of the way. It’s about building real, deep-rooted relationships.
This is our first coffee of the year from the Mierisch family. The varietal is Javanica, which they came across by chance. The story goes that 20lb of an unknown bag of coffee seeds were sold to the them on the side of the road by a gentleman who had been given the seeds as severance pay from a UNICAFE experimental station.
In the years following they experimented with the varietal – testing altitudes and processing methods – to understand it further. Their javanica crops are now some of their most popular coffees. San Jose in the cup is immensely floral with a delicious strawberry-like profile.
Espresso: 1:2 coffee to water, extracted in 28-32 secs
Filter: 60-65g coffee per litre of water, brewed for 3-4 mins
Roast & despatch days are currently Monday to Friday. All orders placed after midnight on Thursday will be roasted and despatched on Monday.
We create a new and unique profile for each coffee we roast. Although the profiles are different, our approach is always the same, to highlight and accentuate the flavours created at the farm and mill. This means we don’t label our coffees as espresso, filter, dark or light roast. All of our coffees are omni-roast, meant to be delicious however you brew. We believe the heart of speciality is keeping the identity and character of every coffee intact and alive, no matter the brew method.
