Cold Brew: Recipes + Serving Suggestions

Make cold brew at home in a flash with our delicious recipes and serving suggestions from Origin's passionate Education team.

FLASH ICED FILTER - SERVES 1

Ingredients:

  • 30g coffee
  • 40g filtered water
  • 125g filtered ice

Equipment:

  • Drip brewer
  • Filter papers
  • Carafe
  • Grinder
  • Scales
  • Timer

Recipe:

  1. Prepare a pour over style brew by adding and rinsing a filter paper with hot water
  2. Grind 30g coffee to a medium-fine grind size and add to brewing device.
  3. Add 125g ice to carafe
  4. Place brewer on top of carafe
  5. Tare scales to 0
  6. Start timer
  7. Add 40g water at 92-96°c to coffee bed
  8. After 30 seconds, slowly pour a further 160g hot water over coffee bed in a circular motion until the scales read 200g, aiming for a total contact time of around 2 minutes and 30 seconds
  9. Swirl until all ice has melted and liquid becomes chilled
  10. Taste and adjust grind size accordingly

 

COLD BREW CONCENTRATE - SERVES 1

Ingredients:

  • 200g coffee
  • 1l filtered water

Equipment:

  • Jar or container (with lid)
  • Grinder
  • Scales
  • Filter paper

     Recipe:

    1. Place 200g freshly ground coffee into a clean jar or container
    2. Pour 1l of filtered water over the coffee, ensuring all coffee is immersed by stirring
    3. Cover with a lid and let brew for 18-24 hours at the room temperature.
    4. Filter out the coffee grounds by using a paper filter
    5. Store in the fridge up to 1 week

    SERVING SUGGESTIONS

    Cold brew with still/sparkling water

    Using 1:1 ratio, pour 1 part of cold brew and 1 part of still or sparkling filtered water over ice

    Cold brew with milk/alternative milk

    Using 1:1 ratio, pour 1 part of cold brew and 1 part of milk/non dairy alternative over ice

    Cold brew tonic

    Using 1:1 ration, pour 1 part of cold brew and 1 part of tonic water over ice. Garnish with slice of orange

    Cold brew ginger beer

    Using 1:1 ration, pour 1 part of cold brew and 1 part of ginger beer over ice. Garnish with slice of grapefruit.
