San Fernando:
From a young age, Lina Londoño dreamed of following her family's long line of coffee producers. Of her five siblings, only Lina carried on the tradition, distinguishing herself by studying agronomy—often as the sole woman in her classes. She then pursued a career as a biotechnologist at Cenicafe, Colombia's leading coffee research institution, where she developed resistant coffee varietals and met her husband, Hector. After retiring from Cenicafe, Lina and Hector purchased Finca San Fernando.
There, they prioritise sustainability, using compost made with Californian worms and minimising chemical inputs. Lina cultivates diverse varieties, including Gesha and Pink Bourbon, and experiments with fermentation. Her daughters are also involved in the family business: one distributes roasted coffee, while the other works at their eco-hotel. San Fernando is a coffee that celebrates Lina's rich heritage, remarkable expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit. Lina Londoño is also a valued contributor to our Atlas Decaf coffee programme.
La Granja:
Luz Marina Ocampo, a third-generation coffee farmer, inherited her husband's farm after his passing in 2006. Initially, she sought the expertise of an agronomist to maintain the quality of her coffee production, recognising the need for guidance in the absence of her husband. This collaboration proved successful, yielding consistently high-quality coffee.
In 2019, her interest in the specialty coffee market was piqued by her son, Eduardo, who was working as a sustainability director for a speciality coffee exporter. Upon returning to home after completing his studies abroad, Eduardo brought with him innovative ideas for improving their cultivation practices. Luz Marina gave her son her blessing to implement the changes he proposed, and they have gone from strength to strength since. They train their pickers in collecting ripe cherries, created a QC room to roast and cup their coffees in-house, and have implemented a compassionate code of conduct for all their workers. Luz Marina is also a valued contributor to our Atlas Decaf coffee programme.
