New Recyclable Bags

From April 30 we’re transitioning from compostable to recyclable coffee bag materials. You’ll be receiving an interim design as the new bags are still in transit.

Compostable plastics sound like the perfect solution to the problem of single-use packaging, however, the infrastructure for such is still in its infancy, meaning people and processing facilities in the UK are unprepared to handle compostable plastics.

Story

Bette Buna is a vertically integrated coffee company founded in 2020 by husband and wife Dawit and Hester. Their coffee journey began following the passing of Dawit’s grandfather, who farmed coffee there with his wife for nearly a century.

This coffee is a single farm lot, sourced from Bette Buna’s farm in the Megadu woreda of Ethiopia’s Guji zone. The farm covers 220 hectares of land, divided into plots of semi-forest and wild forest, with coffee planted throughout. The farm is home to both full-time and seasonal employees, who are provided with weekly transportation to the relatively remote location, housing, meals, and satellite education for their children who travel with their parents to the farm during the busy season.

Ripe coffee cherries were handpicked from the farm’s semi-forest plots before being placed onto raised drying beds, undergoing a natural process. The cherries were dried 3–5 weeks, spending half of the time in full sun exposure and half of the time shaded, to reach its ideal humidity.

    Different and new

New sources. Changing at different times.

Exciting to experience new sources and experience different flavours

Would be good to be able to give feedback on specific source

That’s the reason for the 4 star, rather than 5

    Versatile omni-blend

Great through the machine, or in the moka pot. Good depth and not too strong (for my tastes).
