Speciality Coffee in Copenhagen | World of Coffee
Copenhagen by Coffee
Last week one the biggest events in the speciality coffee industry, World of Coffee, arrived in Copenhagen. The expo is curated by the Speciality Coffee Association, and brings together thousands of coffee professionals from around the world to a different European city each year to experience talks, demonstrations, tastings and the latest innovations in speciality coffee.
Partnerships
Our Director of Coffee, Freda Yuan, was on the ground proudly representing Origin. She hosted a Mindfulness Sensory Workshop and two brewing sessions alongside our partners at Comandante and Fellow, showcasing our July feature coffees. Also attending were coffee producers and Origin's long-standing partners, Erwin Mierisch (Nicaragua) and Carlos Pola (El Salvador), creating a great chance to connect.
"Attending World of Coffee is a great opportunity to engage and connect with the wider coffee community. The experience was amazing, and I took away of lot of inspiration and new perspectives - from both the expo and the time spent around Copenhagen.”
Exploring the City
Origin’s Social Media Content Creative, and Denmark native, Nikoline Buhl, accompanied Freda to the event, and the pair enjoyed some time spent exploring the city's culinary scene. Copenhagen is a city renowned for its world-class food and drink, so we caught up with Nikoline to hear some of her honourable mentions.
Andersen & Maillard
“Andersen & Maillard are renowned for their exceptional bread and pastries in Denmark. We visited their Nørrebro location, which offered a warm and inviting atmosphere- the aroma of freshly baked goods put a smile on our faces. The square croissants and Danish ‘Brunsviger’ are a must try.”
Darcy's Kaffe
“We went to the loved-by-all coffee shop, Darcy’s Kaffe. A hot spot for speciality coffee, they feature roasteries around the world alongside a seasonal breakfast menu. The baristas were extremely attentive and knowledgeable, and brewed the coffee with exceptional care - our V60 was delicate and had a great amount of acidity. A great start to the day.”
Aamann's
“For lunch, we stopped by Aamann's for a Danish classic, Smørrebrød. Smørrebrød is an open-faced sandwich topped generously with fish or potatoes, greens and sauces. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was really welcoming. Freda’s favourite was the Herring, which was topped with an elderflower cream.”
ÅBEN Brewery
“I was excited to introduce Freda to one of my favourite breweries, ÅBEN. Their bar in the meatpacking district offers a wide range of their experimental beers, including Freda’s favourite – sour beer. A perfect spot to meet friends before or after dinner, with the option to enjoy your drink outside when the sun shines. For us, it was an ideal spot for winding down after a long day at the expo.”
Cleo
“For dinner, Cleo came highly recommended. Small plates, intricately crafted and bursting with flavour, enjoyed against the backdrop of a classic Copenhagen street. My highlights were their pineapple dish with grapefruit, and the white asparagus topped with aji and salted egg-yolk, enjoyed with some great wine. The atmosphere in this part of town was perfect for a casual evening out.”
