Scoresby Street is a showcase of all things Origin. From beautiful interior design incorporating revolutionary technical equipment, to expertly roasted and ethically sourced speciality coffee, alongside delicious food. Read our full overview of Origin’s newest addition below.
DESIGN
Here at Origin, art and design runs deep. We relish working with creative talent, whose aesthetics and craftsmanship feature heavily throughout Scoresby Street.
The shop is tucked away beneath the distinct railway arches and is a stone’s throw from Southwark Station. The interior is designed by former ‘FX Product Designer of the Year’ and our long-standing partner Anna Hart. It has a raw, industrial influence which is combined with layered materials – from distressed timber to exquisite Terrazo tiles. This is paired with warm finishes including earth toned ceramics, which create an inviting space that feels relaxed and intimate.

The impressive interior houses various furnishings, including handmade wooden stools by Falmouth based designer, Felix McCormack. Using a single board of Olive Ash sourced from Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall, Felix wanted to achieve “an elegant, and minimal silhouette” with the two-toned pattern in the grain. This attention to detail throughout the entire design process is reflected in so many aspects of the shop. We’re incredibly proud to showcase work by so many talented designers and makers.

EDUCATION & TECH
Alongside our new shop, Scoresby Street will be an impressive showcase of the latest technology and training programs within the speciality coffee industry. Pride of place on the bar – fabricated by Weber Industries – is the impressive La Marzocco Modbar AV ABR system. This is the first to be installed in the UK. A revolution in espresso brewing, featuring design by our partners La Marzocco, PID temperature control and integrated scales for the utmost in volumetric accuracy. For us, precision and craft at each stage of the sourcing and roasting process is hugely important. This goes for the brewing process too, the ModBar AV ABR produces a consistently special cup.

Scoresby Street will house Origin’s skilled technical support, wholesale and SCA accredited education teams. These include a barista training facility and technical space, providing ongoing support to our growing wholesale relationships in London.
“Southwark is a really exciting development for Origin...It allows us to showcase our delicious new food menu and share our knowledge of incredible direct trade speciality coffee in an outstanding space”.
- Origin owner and founder, Tom Sobey.
FOOD
Scoresby Street will see an exciting new expansion of Origin’s food offering - celebrating a range of British small producers that reflect quality and provenance, such as wild cheeses from the Urban Cheese Maker. Breakfast, brunch and lunch offerings will also be available. Menu highlights include a cashew, coconut, chickpea and herb braised lamb shoulder with lime dressed wild rice and charred sweetcorn, chilli spring onion and coriander pancake with chilli jam, crispy shallots, avocado yoghurt and rocket.

Customers will also be able to choose from a monthly changing brunch menu, hosting an array of freshly produced options such as the ‘brunch club’ special consisting of free range smoked streaky bacon, fried free range egg, avocado, roast tomatoes, tabasco mayo and rocket on sourdough toast. All served alongside some delicious brunch cocktails, with the “Kyushiki (Japanese Old Fashioned)" with chilled espresso, Suntory Toki Japanese whisky, Akashi Tai Umeshu plum liquer, yuzu, muscovado sugar and a jasmine diffusion; producing fresh red and black plum flavours, followed by pink grapefruit and jasmine as our current favourite. COFFEEThe Scoresby Street speciality coffee menu will showcase Origin’s incredible direct trade single origin coffees and regularly rotating features. For launch, Scoresby Street customers can expect the sublime Honduran Casona Geisha - as championed in this month’s Caffeine Magazine. A stand out at the Caffeine team's cupping table; with “hints of florals, followed by a creamy, intense, clean cup with strawberry compote and apricot.” This coffee is remarkably sweet, as if the perceived notes of fruit have been reduced in a pan full of sugar, with light, floral flavours that grow into a unique and complex cup.

Alongside the Casona Geisha pour overs at the brew bar will be the latest in our Special Edition series, Panama Nuguo. Boasting flavours of raspberry jam, chocolate covered strawberries and stewed apricot, with a clear and expressive aroma – this coffee is not one to be missed.
