Origin
Producer
Jean Bosco comes from a family deeply rooted in coffee farming in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke district. After the 1994 genocide, his older brother took on the responsibility of caring for the family’s coffee farms and started building a coffee washing station as they rebuilt their lives. Bosco, who was serving in the army until 2000, joined the family business upon his return. Guided by his brother’s experience, he eventually established his own washing station — Butembo CWS — marking a new chapter in the family’s long coffee‑growing heritage.
Starting with only five drying tables and a single fermentation tank, the family’s progress was driven by perseverance and well‑judged investment. Today, the station places sustainability and community empowerment at its core—working closely with farmers to produce organic compost and providing essential tools to support their livelihoods.
Origin
Origin
Rwanda has become a standout origin in speciality coffee, producing bright, clean, and complex cups shaped by its high altitudes and fertile volcanic soils. Most coffee is grown by smallholder farmers and processed using the washed method, which highlights the country’s signature citrus, red fruit, and tea‑like sweetness. Strong community structures and investment in agronomy, training, and sustainability have helped elevate quality nationwide. Today, Rwanda is celebrated for consistently refined, expressive coffees that reflect both its unique landscape and the resilience of the people who cultivate them.
